"In Search of the Domain of Sensory Privilege"

Abstract: Historically, one of the most persistent refrains in the philosophy of perception is that the senses are never in error. Of course, the senses may lead us to error, but even when that happens it has often been said that the error lies not with sensation, but at some other level. Here I consider some of the various inventive ways in which medieval authors attempted to make good on this doctrine, thereby securing a space for sensory reliability even in the face of the errors and illusions that we obviously encounter.

The lecture starts at 19.00 and afterwards we have a bar. Membership of Filosofiska föreningen is mandatory and the fee is 50 SEK per year.

The lecture will be recorded.
